With that all said have had Meindls fckout on first outing and Lowas last 3 or 4 months. Best pair of boots i have currently are Hanwag Alaska's 2 years going well (winter boot). Have also got a pair of Lowa Z6s ive had for 4 years and still great boots, starting to show signs of wear due to age and the fact i wear them a lot (summer tops boot).
here's what i'm thinking. hanwag trapper elite GTX, lowa hunter GTX evo extrme, schnee granite. any others to consider? summer- same height as above, not so stiff but not work boots floppy. rand with toe protection, waterproof, non insulated. thinking lowa tibet GTX hi, crispi hunter GTX. are these crispi's non insulated? any others?
The Banks GTX’s upper is made predominantly from nubuck leather, but also makes use of suede panels and synthetic materials – the latter prevalent in the ankle area of the boot. Nubuck has its advantages over other types of leather; it’s more durable and more water-resistant than suede, but is more breathable (though slightly less durable
Hanwag prides itself on its unmatched quality, crafting footwear that endures the harshest conditions hunters face. Every pair of Hanwag boots is meticulously constructed with premium materials, including full-grain leather and advanced synthetic fabrics. These boots are built to last, providing exceptional durability, flexibility, and protection.
I bought Lowa Tibets this year after wearing Danner Pronghorns for several years on my Colorado elk hunts. I have no comparison to the Kennetreks but the Lowas are nice boots. The one thing I did notice is wearing a stiffer boot while hiking works different muscles in my lower legs compared to a lower or more flexible boot.
CO. Also have the same issue. Look at the old Meindl Perfekt Hunters which are now the Comfort Fit Hunters directly from Meindlusa. The even specifically call out the wider toe box "Built on the Comfort Fit last, these boots have more room in the toebox, and cup the heels snugly for a near-custom fit and feel."
I'll add that Lowa Camino's are my go-to boot for most elk hunting. If I'm backpacking or packing meat I prefer my Hanwag Alaska's. They're similar to Lowa Tibet's but they fit me better and I like them better than the Tibet's.
