Diesels offer great economy, the best being the 1.5 TDCi, which in five-seat C-Max guise averages 68.9mpg and emits 105g/km of CO₂. You ought to get 40-odd mpg out of the petrols too, so no C Underneath all this is a roomy family car that is extraordinarily good to drive. The diesel engine is smooth, very quiet and very keen. The steering is one of the most natural-feeling electrically powered systems I have encountered. The C-Max flows beautifully around bends and nonchalantly soaks up most bumps. The Ford Grand C-Max has a firmer suspension setup than most of its rivals, but it stops well short of being uncomfortable. The front seats offer good support and plenty of adjustment, too.
Ford has bucked tradition by replacing the outgoing C-MAX with not one, but two all-new models. The five-seater and the seven-seater Grand are designed to sew up the small people carrier market.
